UGC NET JRF vs Assistant Professor Eligibility

A single UGC NET attempt can result in two different kinds of eligibility: eligibility for Assistant Professor positions, and eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), which comes with a fellowship for research.

JRF eligibility is typically bounded by an age limit with category-based relaxation, while Assistant Professor eligibility generally has no upper age limit. This means candidates outside the JRF age window can still qualify for teaching eligibility through the same exam.

Because the two tracks use different cutoffs internally, a candidateโ€™s score can sometimes qualify them for Assistant Professor eligibility without clearing the higher bar typically associated with JRF, or vice versa depending on category and subject-wise cutoffs.

Rules and eligibility requirements may change. Please verify the latest official notification for UGC NET.
