UGC NET Exam Pattern Explained
UGC NET is split into two papers taken back-to-back on the same day. Paper 1 is common to all candidates and checks teaching and research aptitude โ reasoning, comprehension, and general awareness of the higher-education and research environment.
Paper 2 is entirely subject-specific and carries a larger share of the total marks, so most of a candidateโs preparation time is usually directed there. Both papers are fully objective, and there is no separate descriptive component.
Because Paper 1 questions repeat familiar themes year to year, many candidates treat it as a shorter, more predictable preparation block, leaving the bulk of their study calendar for the depth required by Paper 2.
